About Microsoft 365 outages
Microsoft 365 binds Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and the Office web apps to a single identity provider, Microsoft Entra ID. That shared dependency is the reason a Microsoft outage so often hits everything at once: If sign-in or token issuance fails, no individual app is broken but none of them are usable.
The symptoms are distinctive. Repeated authentication prompts, "We couldn't sign you in", Teams stuck on "Connecting" and Outlook showing "Disconnected" in the status bar usually all point at the same identity incident. Exchange Online, by contrast, fails on its own and produces delayed mail without touching Teams. Tenant-specific problems are common too, which is why your organisation may be affected while a colleague at another company is not; the admin centre shows tenant-scoped advisories that never appear on the public status page at status.cloud.microsoft.
