Education status

Learning management systems and study tools, at their worst near a deadline. All 3 are checked every 20 minutes; the status beside each one is the result of its most recent check.

Learning platforms fail on a timetable, and their outages carry a deadline that no other category has: A submission window that may not reopen.

How reliable education has been, last 30 days

Measured by our own checks, run every 20 minutes, not taken from any provider’s status page. 3 of 3 services have enough history to report.

Canvas LMS has been the steadiest here over the last 30 days. Uptime is observed uptime: The share of measured time our checks got a usable answer. It excludes nothing, including announced maintenance.

Why education services go down

Education traffic is synchronised in a way almost nothing else is. Thousands of students submit in the final hour before the same deadline, sit the same exam at the same moment, and log in during the same first lecture of term. Capacity has to be sized for a handful of predictable minutes per year, which institutions reasonably decline to pay for, so those minutes are when failures happen.

The consequence is unlike any other category. A shop losing an hour loses sales it may recover; a student who cannot submit may miss an assessment outright. That is why these outages generate formal appeals rather than complaints, and why evidence matters more here than anywhere else on this site.

What an outage here looks like

Sign-in queues, uploads that reach 99% and stall, submission confirmations that never arrive. Content browses fine; it is the write path that fails, which is exactly the part students need.

When these services are under most strain

Deadline hours - typically late afternoon and midnight - plus the first week of each term and exam periods. The most predictable peaks in this directory.

What to do when education is down

  1. Screenshot everything, with the clock visible. Evidence of an attempted submission during a known outage is what appeals turn on. Capture the error, the time and the page.
  2. Email the work to your tutor as well. A timestamped email is independent proof you finished on time, and it costs nothing.
  3. Submit hours early during the last week of term. The failure window is narrow and entirely predictable. Avoiding it is free.
  4. Check whether your institution has posted a notice. Extensions are frequently granted automatically, and knowing that changes what you should do next.
