Shopping & delivery status
Marketplaces, checkout platforms and the carriers behind them. All 7 are checked every 20 minutes; the status beside each one is the result of its most recent check.
Retail outages are concentrated into a few hours of the year when they cost the most, and the checkout fails long before the rest of the shop does.
How reliable shopping & delivery has been, last 30 days
Measured by our own checks, run every 20 minutes, not taken from any provider’s status page. 7 of 7 services have enough history to report.
| Service | Now | Uptime 30d | Downtime | Response |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Up | 100.0% | none | 173 ms |
| DoorDash | Up | 100.0% | none | 143 ms |
| eBay | Up | 100.0% | none | 192 ms |
| FedEx | Up | 100.0% | none | 296 ms |
| Shopify | Up | 100.0% | none | 205 ms |
| UPS | Up | 100.0% | none | 196 ms |
| USPS | Up | 100.0% | none | 201 ms |
DoorDash has been the steadiest here over the last 30 days. Uptime is observed uptime: The share of measured time our checks got a usable answer. It excludes nothing, including announced maintenance.
Why shopping & delivery services go down
An online shop is mostly cached pages, which are cheap and resilient, sitting in front of a checkout that cannot be cached at all. Browsing therefore survives loads that checkout cannot, and the first symptom of trouble is almost always a basket that will not proceed while every product page loads instantly.
Inventory is the second pressure point. Stock counts have to be consistent across everyone shopping at once, and that consistency is expensive. Under heavy load, retailers frequently degrade deliberately: Queues, disabled features, simplified pages. That is a designed response, not a fault, though it is reported as one.
What an outage here looks like
Products browse perfectly, the basket fails. Queue pages appear. Orders may complete but confirmation emails arrive hours later, which causes a second wave of duplicate orders from people who assumed failure.
When these services are under most strain
Black Friday, Boxing Day, and the final hours before Christmas delivery cut-offs. Carriers peak a few days behind the shops, which is why delivery tracking fails after the shopping does.
At a glance
- Typical duration
- 20 minutes to 2 hours, heavily seasonal
- Usual cause
- Checkout or inventory under peak load
- Tell-tale sign
- Browsing fast, basket failing
- Seasonality
- The most concentrated of any category here
What to do when shopping & delivery is down
- Do not resubmit an order you are unsure about. Confirmation emails run late under load. Check your order history before trying again, or you will buy it twice.
- Stay in the queue. Queue systems are usually fair and position is not preserved if you reload. Refreshing genuinely costs you your place.
- Expect tracking to fail after delivery peaks, not during. Carrier systems lag retail by several days.
