About Cloudflare outages
Cloudflare sits between visitors and a very large share of the web, so its failures are recognisable by their error pages rather than by silence. A 5xx page carrying a Cloudflare ray ID is the giveaway: 502 and 504 usually mean the origin behind Cloudflare is unreachable, while 520 to 527 are Cloudflare-specific codes describing exactly how the origin connection failed.
