About Zelle outages
Zelle is unusual because almost nobody uses zellepay.com. The service is embedded inside bank apps, which means a Zelle outage appears as a transfer failing inside Chase, Bank of America or Wells Fargo - And customers reasonably blame their bank.
The network is operated by Early Warning Services, a consortium owned by several large banks, so an outage at the network level affects all participating banks simultaneously. That is the diagnostic: If Zelle fails at multiple banks at once, the network is the cause; if it fails at one, that bank's integration is. Payments that show as pending during an incident are usually queued and complete later, and re-sending is a common cause of duplicate transfers. A separate and important point is that Zelle transfers are effectively irreversible, so the safe action during an incident is always to wait rather than retry. There is no public status page.
