The badge, and the one rule

The free every 20 minutes tier is conditional on this badge being on your homepage. After you add your site, your dashboard gives you your own copy - it looks like this:

<a href="https://isitdown.now/"><img src="https://isitdown.now/badge/monitor/0123456789abcdef.svg" alt="Uptime monitored by IsItDown.now" width="160" height="28"></a>
Use the code exactly as given. Any change to it - an added attribute, hiding it, or loading it with a script - voids the every 20 minutes tier.

How we check

  • We fetch your homepage once a day and read the HTML for the badge.
  • The link and the image have to match the code, the badge has to be visible, and the page must not tell search engines to ignore its links.
  • If it fails, we email you what we found and look again 24 hours later. Fail twice in a row and the site drops to checks every 3 hours.
  • Put it back and press Check my badge in your dashboard: the every 20 minutes checks resume immediately.
  • Using WordPress? The plugin adds the badge for you, correctly.

For agencies and freelancers

Pro is built for looking after other people's sites. Ten client sites checked as often as every minute, one status page under your own name and domain, and a monthly uptime report per site you can forward to each client as it is. List yourself in our agency directory so site owners looking for help can find you.

Open source or a nonprofit?

Projects and registered nonprofits get 5 sites checked on Pro's intervals (as often as every minute), free, with the badge on the project site. Apply here.

Questions

Is the free plan really free?

Yes. One site, checked every 20 minutes, with email alerts when it goes down and when it comes back. The one condition is our badge on your homepage, exactly as we give it to you. Without the badge the same site is checked every 3 hours.

Can I change the badge code?

No. The embed code must be used exactly as given. Any modification, including an added attribute, voids the 20-minute tier and the site falls back to checks every 3 hours. We check the badge once a day; if it fails twice in a row, 24 hours apart, the cadence drops and we email you the exact reason.

Where does the badge have to be?

On the homepage of the site you are monitoring, visible, and in the page's HTML (not added by JavaScript). If you put it on another page of the same site, we find it there too once it has been viewed.

What does Pro add?

Ten sites, each checked as often as you choose - any interval from 1 to 60 minutes, and we recommend 5 - with no badge required, your own branding and domain on the status page, and monthly client reports, for $14.99 a month.

How do you decide a site is down?

A failed check is repeated a few seconds later from the same network. Only when both fail do we open an incident and email you, so one dropped packet never wakes you up.

I run sites for clients. Does this work for an agency?

Yes - that is what Pro is for. Ten client sites, one status page with your branding, a monthly uptime report per site you can send to each client, and an optional listing in our agency directory.
