About Minecraft outages
Most of Minecraft runs locally, so an outage does not stop you playing single-player - It stops you signing in, joining servers, loading skins or reaching Realms. Since the move from Mojang accounts to Microsoft accounts, authentication runs through Microsoft's identity platform, which means Minecraft can be knocked offline by an incident that has nothing to do with Mojang.
The familiar symptoms are "Failed to login: Invalid session", servers rejecting connections with an authentication error, and default Steve or Alex skins replacing custom ones while everything else works. Multiplayer servers are independently operated, so one server being unreachable is not a platform outage. Realms is a paid hosted service with its own availability.
